F. David Doty, PhD
Founder, President, CEO, Chief Scientist, Chairman of the Board
Dr. Doty founded Doty Scientific, Inc. in 1982 and has been leading the company since its inception. He received his PhD in Physics from the University of South Carolina in 1983. The technological advances pioneered by Dr. Doty have been the impetus for the company’s success. He has been awarded more than 30 patents for his work in NMR technology, RF technology, turbomachinery, heat transfer, and [soon] alternative fuels. He also has more than 35 publications and invited talks in these areas. Since 1997 he has also been a panel member for the NIH Center for Scientific Review section on Bioengineering and Physiology.
David McCree, BS/MS
Secretary/Treasurer, Business Manager, Board of Directors
Mr. McCree joined Doty in 1996 and has served as an officer with the company since 2000. He received his MS in Physics from the University of South Carolina in 2007. His physics background is complimented by his experience in chemical and industrial engineering and accounting.
Judy M. Doty, BA
Co-Founder, Operations Manager, Board of Directors
Ms. Doty has been a vital part of day-to-day operations of the company since its inception on 1982. Her current primary responsibilities are operations management and marketing. She also serves the company as the Human Resources Manager. She received her BA from Anderson College in 1973.
Laura L Holte, PhD
Sales Manager, Biochemist
Dr. Holte joined Doty Scientific, Inc. in 1998 and has been serving as the Sales Manager since that time. In 1992, she received her PhD in Analytical Chemistry from Montana State University, Bozeman, MT. Prior to becoming a part of the Doty team, she held a post-doc research fellowship from NIH.
John Staab, MSEE
Engineering Manager, Chief Electrical Engineer
Mr. Staab joined the Doty team in 1994 where he quickly earned the position of engineering manager. He received his MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Arizona in 1993 with summa cum laude honors. His contributions to the company’s SBIR phase II awards and to product development have been invaluable.
JB Spitzmesser, MTT
Co-Founder, Senior Manufacturing Engineer
Mr. Spitzmesser is a founding member of Doty Scientific, having started with the company at its inception in 1982. He is an experienced manufacturing engineer with expertise in all methods of manual machining. He has also previously served the company both as Vice President and as a member of the Board of Directors.
Paul Ellis, PhD
Dr. Ellis is a recognized leader in the field of NMR with 188 publications in the field of NMR and other areas of Physical Chemistry. Dr. Ellis joined our team back in August 2011, he is also Adjunct Professor at the Department of Chemistry at the University of South Carolina.
Dr. Ellis held the positions of Associate Director for the Macromolecular Structure and Dynamics Directorate at Battelle’s William R. Wiley Environmental Molecular Sciences Laboratory (1993-1998); and Senior Staff Scientist and PNNL Fellow (1998-1999), at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratories, Richland, Washington.
Dr. Ellis joined Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in 1993 after a 23-year academic career at the University of South Carolina. While a professor at the university, Dr. Ellis also held the position of Director Regional Instrumentation Facility in NMR Spectroscopy (1978 -1988) Sponsored by the National Science Foundation.
Glenn Doty, BA
Purchaser, Nobel metal plating, COMSOL Simulations
Since joining the company in 1990 Glenn Doty has been involved in many aspects of Doty Scientific. Early on, Mr. Doty worked on simulations of the Doty MRI gradient coil designs. More recently, he has worked on simulations of complex probe designs using the COMSOL platform. Mr. Doty assists with technical writing and has been a co-author on 8 published papers, while participating as a technical editor on many others. Mr. Doty holds a BA from Francis Marion University.
Bibhuti Das, PhD
NMR Applications Scientist
Bibhuti received his Ph.D. in Physics, specializing in development and applications in solid state NMR spectroscopy, from the Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, India. After that he received a Postdoctoral Fellowship and then Project Scientist position, both at the Univ. of California, San Diego. His experience includes developing new methodologies for rapid data collection in solid-state NMR spectroscopy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), solid state NMR structure determination of viral proteins and membrane proteins, and in vivo molecular imaging. He’s published over 31 research articles on protein structures, protein biophysics and NMR spectroscopy, contributed to 4 book chapters and 2 review articles, delivered 16 invited talks, and presented over 30 abstracts in scientific conferences nationally and internationally.
