Breakthrough HE11 THz Couplers are Coming!
World’s First High-directivity Low-loss Bidirectional HE11 THz Couplers
- Advance information.
- Reduce transmission losses in the mmw and THz ranges by factors up to 1 million by switching from traditional TE10 fundamental mode rectangular waveguides to the new Doty Laminate Lined Waveguides (LLWGs) with overmoded HE11.
- Switching from traditional rectangular waveguides to overmoded waveguides requires an HE11 launcher. Most applications will also require bidirectional couplers, miter bends, uptapers, HE11-to-rectangular transitions, and possibly splitters, attenuators, and loads.
- The Doty HE11 THz couplers will be the world’s first-ever bidirectional THz couplers with high directivity and low loss.
- These are small, symmetric, 4-port components, designed to work with HE11 polarization in the x-direction (E in the direction of the coupling ports, also called p-polarization) and reflect orthogonal polarization, also called s-polarization.
- The first couplers will be for use with LLWGs with 9.35-mm OD for the 310-350 GHz range. Others will follow, eventually for all bands covering the 100-750 GHz range. Their frequency band is determined by proprietary internal features, not by the diameter.
- Results shown are from detailed CST simulations.
